The Lie-Nielsen No. 1 is a miniature bench plane, 5-1/2 inches long with a 1-3/16 inch blade. Improvements over the Stanley No.1 include an 1/8 inch thick blade hardened to Rockwell 60-62, and fully machined mating surfaces between the frog and body, making for a very solid tool. Also, the blade adjustment screw runs on a left-hand thread stud: a clockwise turn adjusts the blade for a deeper cut. This adjustment is very precise and convenient with minimum backlash.
All castings are Manganese Bronze, machined and hand polished to our very high standards. This Plane with its many machined parts, Cherry handle and knobs, cam lever cap iron and small size compels you to pick it up and start planing.
