High angle frogs (HAF) have a 50 degree bedding angle which can improve results in highly figured woods. On the other hand, the higher angle does not improve performance on soft straight grained lumber and may require more effort to push the plane.
We recommend the 45 degree frog which is standard on Lie-Nielsen bench planes for most work.

The Lie-Nielsen No. 7 Jointer Plane is 22 in. long with a massive 2 3/8 in. x .145 in. thick (almost 5/32 in.) tool steel blade. The body is cast from unbreakable Ductile Iron and is ground flat within .001 in. over the full length and square within .001 in.. The frog and cap are cast Bronze. The tool weighs 8 1/4 pounds. This is a tool of substance. Excellent for jointing or shooting long edges and surfacing large areas quickly and accurately.
