These calipers are one of the handiest measuring tools in the shop. We use them to measure the odd unmarked drill bit, depths of drilled holes, widths of saw kerfs and dozens of other things. Since they measure depth, inside and outside dimensions, they are much easier to use and more accurate than a ruler. Highly recommended.

Starrett produces the only American Made Dial Caliper. One of the handiest measuring tools available. No veneer scales to interpolate, it is easy to read, reliable, and accurate. A quality tool with parts support (see link below), it should last a lifetime.
There are many occasions where measurements to within a couple of thousandths of an inch is helpful in the woodworking shop. Thicknessing lumber with a planer is a good example. Unless you like sanding, the more accurate the final thickness, the easier it is to glue up and dress panels. Set the calipers to the desired thickness, lock the calipers and use them as a go - no go gauge to determine when you've reached the correct thickness.
- Sharp, clear dial graduations of .001"
- Knife-edge contacts for both inside and outside measurements
- One hand use with the thumb-operated, fine adjustment roll
- Hardened stainless steel bar, measuring surfaces, rack, gears, and depth rod
- Positive, split-gear anti-backlash control
