Hock Bench Plane Blades
Hock blade and chipbreaker with a vintage Stanley 4-1/2. Inset shows the original Stanley blade with chipbreaker next to a Hock blade with chipbreaker. Hock's thicker blades and chipbreakers provide a much stiffer assembly which helps prevent chattering.
Many Hock blades are offered in both High Carbon Steel and cryogenically treated A2 Tool Steel. Blades of both steels take a fine edge and hold it well. The A2 Tool Steel is more resistant to wear when used in abrasive woods containing high levels of silica such as tropical hardwoods.
These blades and chipbreakers should fit most bench planes made by Stanley, Record, Millers Falls and others. Since the blades and chipbreakers are thicker than the blade you are replacing, it is normal to adjust the frog in order for them to fit properly.
